A South Bend youth hockey coach was arrested and charged with soliciting a minor to commit immoral acts.

Christien Joubert, 39, of South Bend is charged in Berrien County.

Joubert is a youth hockey coach and has worked with The Ice Box and the Irish Youth Hockey League.

According to court documents, officers with the Berrien County and Genesse County Sheriff’s offices were conducting a sting operation on May 12 at a hotel on South 11th Street in Niles Township.

WSBT says Joubert responded to an advertisement on a website that promoted sex for money. Police posed online as a 15-year-old girl and made contact with Joubert through text message where he asked for “sexual favors” in exchange for $80. He also sent multiple pictures including one of his genitals.

Police invited Joubert to the hotel and asked him to bring soda. When he knocked on the hotel door, he was taken into custody.

Joubert admitted to police that he uses the website a few times a month, typically for flirting but he never actually showed up to a meeting. According to court documents obtained by WSBT, he said he thought the person was 19, not 15.

The Ice Box told WSBT that he is no longer working with their program.
