A resolution urging the passed of “common sense gun reform” was passed by the South Bend Common Council Monday evening.
The resolution was approved 6-to-1 urging lawmakers in Washington and other higher forms of government to pass new gun reform laws.
The only councilor to vote against it was Eli Wex, who says he voted no because it is not the council’s job to tell state and federal lawmakers what to do.
Supporters of the resolution say the gun reform debate starts on the local level.

Another group of ignorant fools. South Bend is a crime capitol of northern Indiana. You all don;t need more laws. You need intestinal fortitude for the SBPD and SJCSD to do their jobs and enforce the law.The new proposals will only effect the already law-abiding. In case you haven;t noticed nearly all the killers in SB are prohibited persons who managed to skip any background check. How is that possible? It is already illegal to murder or injure with a firearm or any other implement. It’s already illegal for teenagers to carry around firearms let alone use them to kill. What will you do about this. For the democrats in SB it’s always symbolism over substance. You virtue signal by this resolution. But you will do nothing to solve the problems of no dads int he home or the schools helping parents teach morals and ethics. I avoid SB like the lawless plague that is is.

My family lives in Elkhart and we are getting the Gangs and Drug Dealers that have taken over South Bend and Mishawaka spilling over into our area for some time now…!
We are having people Murdered every single day here just as is happening in S.B. and Mishawaka..!
Every time you turn around they are finding Corrupt Cops in our local police department…!
In fact, I just read a story about a group of Elkhart Cops who call themselves the Wolverines that they have proven targeted people of color and violated many 2nd Amendment rights, also got at least two people wrongly convicted…!
There are some good Cops too and they have told me that it usually takes them 30-45 minutes to respond to a 921 call…!
They told me to be prepared to protect myself, my family, and my neighbors if need be…
Who thinks that someone intent on doing you harm is going to wait until the police finally arrive…?
Our new Constitutional Carry Law has been a answer to prayers…!
No new laws are going to make any difference…!
It’s been proven over and over that Criminals do not follow the law, that’s why they are called Criminals…!
Places like Chicago, New York, New Jersey, ect. have the most severe gun laws do n our Country yet they have the worst gun crimes in our country…!
What we need is tougher punishments for the laws already on the books…!
Stop this half time sentences for good behavior…!
If they cause problems in prison then punish them more and harder…!
Stop our law enforcement, government agencies like the fbi and cia, and lawyers from making PLEA DEALS that allow Murders to either get a ridiculously short sentence or no time at all…!
Plus, they then give them a new house, new vehicles, and a nice fat paycheck for life to live on…!
Hell, we cannot get a deal like that why should a Criminal…???

That liberal run city is like so many and the Elite in charge are so in a different world.
Like any new gun laws are going to change illegal shootings in the City of South Bend. It’s not the gun but the criminal that misuses it for bad intent. Indiana has the death penalty and needs to be used on very bad people who commit first-degree murder.
South Bend can’t even admit what the problem really is (it’s not guns), and the police have their hands tied with “equity based policing” being forced on them by the leftists running the show.
The South Bend Common Council doesn’t want the shootings to stop or they would stop them. What they DO want is for the shootings to continue so they can make soothing noises to their base to turn out donations and votes.
South Bend Common Council, : Lip service at it’s finest, exactly what we have come to expect.
I sure do hope that we can pass some laws to make self defense less accessible for single mothers living in one of many crime riddled neighborhoods in South Bend.
The only Republican, Eli Wex on the S.B. City Council voted no to this waste of time nonsense. As he stated the city can’t dictate to the state and Federal governments on what gun legislation to pass. Democratic run cities can’t get their act together to lower the raising crime.
