Indiana unemployment rate remains the same in Indiana, edges up in Michiana

Indiana’s unemployment rate, last month, remained unchanged from the previous month, holding steady at 2.2-percent.

Locally, the jobless rate in St. Joseph County edged up, from 2.3 percent in April to 2.7 percent in May. In Elkhart County, the rate rose from 1.4 percent to 1.8 percent.

By comparison, in may the national unemployment stood at 3.6%, also remaining stable from April.

In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate rose again, remaining above the national rate. Industries that experienced job increases in May included manufacturing, professional and business services and leisure and hospitality. As of June 1, there were nearly 160,000 open job postings throughout the state.
