Nearby residents are being credited with helping during a water rescue on Diamond Lake in Cass County.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were called late Wednesday morning, June 29, when a South Bend man on a Lund boat crashed into a Nitro fishing boat.

One of the passengers on the Lund was ejected and was unconscious in the water.

The Lund circled the other boat multiple times until the man could regarding control, but the boat took on water due to the crash.

A Cass County Marine Unit arrived on scene and helped getting the boats and all the passengers back to shore.

Personal floatation devices were on board both vessels but were not being used at the time of the crash.
