The City of Hammond is proposing a major step to fight back against gun violence.
State Representative Linda Lawson proposed legislation in 2018 to make it a Level 6 Felony to fire a loaded gun into the air within Hammond’s city limits. The legislation failed to get a hearing, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.
Two years ago another piece of proposed legislation would criminalize shooting a gun without justification in a city or town, again without getting a hearing.
On Thursday, Mayor McDermott, the City Council President and another Councilman have filed a proposed ordinance that would make it unlawful for anyone to discharge a firearm in the City of Hammond.
The ordinance will be heard during the July 11 City Council meeting.

How is this “a major step to fight back against gun violence”? It’s already illegal to assault and murder people with or without a gun, so a silly rule about shooting a gun is going to discourage someone as they commit murder? Democrats are STUPID.
More likely, this will be used against people who dare to defend themselves from the Democrats’ pet criminals.
Ninety-Nine point Nine Nine Nine percent of all shots fired in Hammond are fired by those in illegal possession of firearms. One more law will solve NOTHING. Why do politicians chase their tails and claim to be doing something. More importantly, why do The People continue to trust their fates to these same stooges or the usual democrat subjects? As Farley stated murder is already Illegal. Assault with a deadly weapon is already illegal. Carrying around or possessing guns by prohibited persons is already illegal. Why do democrats focus all their energy on the law-abiding while letting the criminals our of jail free??

It is illegal to discharge a firearm in the city limits of South Bend. Does that stop criminals and totally irresponsible people ? Did you hear about the man who got hit by a stray bullet at the baseball stadium over the holiday weekend.
