Elkhart County Sheriff’s investigators looking for man allegedly involved in shooting

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man they suspect shot another man after a fight that happened early Monday, July 11, at a home in the 51000 block of Downey Street.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office sent the following information:

In the evening of July 10, 2022, at approximately 11:17pm, officers from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting that occurred in the 51000 block of Downey St. Upon officers’ arrival, Steven Nobles, 34, reported an unknown person came to his residence and shot a firearm through his sliding glass door, striking him causing a minor injury. Mr. Nobles reported that he retrieved a firearm and shot it in the direction of where he thought the gun shot had come from. Mr. Noble refused medical treatment and was released at the scene.

Later, on July 11, 2022, at approximately 2:30am, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Officers responded to another shooting at a different residence in the 51000 block of Downey St. Officers arrived to discover Bryan Berry, 42, had been shot in the legs, with non-life-threatening injuries.

It was revealed during the preliminary investigation that Steven Nobles had arrived at the second residence and made threats to the occupants. At some point, Bryan Berry and Steven Nobles engaged in a physical altercation in the roadway. Witness reports indicate that Mr. Nobles went to his vehicle after knocking Mr. Berry to the ground, retrieved a firearm and shot Mr. Berry in the legs. Mr. Nobles left the scene and has not been located at this time.
