Sheriff candidate son facing charges of battery

The son of Kosciusko County Sheriff candidate, Jim Smith, is facing charges of battery and maintaining a public nuisance.

In August 2021, Indiana State Police were contacted about sexual misconduct with a minor.

The victims says that on July 4, 2021, she and here friends met up with three men.

The suspect, Zachary Smith, brought marijuana.

Witnesses say they saw Smith touching the victim.

The victim later went off on her own with Smith.

The victim, who was between 14 and 16, says it was all consensual.

ABC 57 News reports that Smith told his friends what he did with the victim.

He faces charges of battery and maintaining a public nuisance in June.

Smith is set to be in court on August 16.
