A man has been charged with open murder and child abuse after the death of an 18-month-old in Van Buren County.

It happened in April, 2021, when Hartford police were called to Watervliet Hospital on reports of child with trauma and possible abuse.

The 18-month-old was airlifted to a Kalamazoo hospital.

An autopsy found that he died of blunt force trauma.

His death was ruled a homicide.

Jacob Tanner was arrested on Monday and charged with open murder and child abuse.
