The Indiana Automotive Heritage Award has been awarded to the Friends of Studebaker Fountain for their work in the restoration of the Studebaker Electric Fountain.

According to AB57 News, the fountain was commissioned by John Studebaker, a member of the Studebaker Automotive group. It was installed in Howard Park in 1906, standing 28 feet high and 34 feet wide.

The city of South Bend’s Parks Department dismantled the fountain in 1941 after it became damaged. However, over two-thirds of the fountain were found in Mishawaka in 2009, and the family in possession of it donated the remains to The History Museum.

In 2015, the Friends of Studebaker Fountain was organized by historians, community leaders, and preservation advocates, eventually raising approximately $900,000 for the costs of maintenance and repair of the fountain.

The fountain is now at Leeper Park, featuring color-changing LED lights alongside the river-side lighting installations.
