Indiana is planning to invest $250 million in Elkhart County road projects for the next five years.
The Elkhart Truth reports that these investments planned will cover 55 miles of road improvements at $127-million, 31-bridge and culvert projects totaling $24-million, and $41-million for grade separation at railroad crossings via the Trax program.
Those grants will help pay for two of the Elkhart-Goshen area railroad overpasses.
The Sunnyside Avenue overpass aims to bridge over the current tracks at US 33 AND CR 45 — It will connect Concord Mall Drive and Sunnyside in Dunlap.
Other projects included the Bristol industrial bypass which will replace pavement on SR. 120 and SR. 15. For U-S 31 and U-S 30, studies are underway on the 180 miles of road way to examine safety, mobility and economic development options.
Finally, they will look to widening both U-S 33 between CR 40 and U-S 20 from S-R 15 to S-R 13.
