An Elkhart man is accused of the murder in a 20-year-old cold case.

Elkhart Police were called to house at 611 S. 3rd St. in May 2002, after reports of a neighbor finding a body.

The man, Robert Reed, was pronounced dead at the scene, from multiple injuries to his head and neck.

His death was ruled a homicide.

The Elkhart Truth reports that in 2011 a DNA sample was taken from 48-year-old Marcus Love, who allegedly knew Reed.

A witness says that Love admitted to killing Reed in 2021.

A match was confirmed that Love was at the scene at the time of the murder.

On Friday, Love was given a warrant and is charged with killing Reed.

That’s what he gets. He is a pos anyway. He does harm to ppl out of jealousy. We were in jail together. I was sleeping with a woman on kitchen staff. He was jealous. He kept trying to approach her thinking he would have some luck too. He couldn’t take the fact that she was in love with me. He was jealous because I was eating Steaks and Italian while he was eating Jail food during lunch and dinners. It drove him to put in a kite and get me moved out of the kitchen. Out of the dorm we were in. That way he could make his move then now I’m out the way. He’s a coward. He was terrified of me. Sneaky punk.
