Niles man, 49, shot to death at home on Redfield Street in Ontwa Township

A man from Niles was killed in a shooting in Ontwa Township.

It was around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, when police were called to the 25000 block of Redfield Street on the report of shots fired.

Officers arrived on scene and took a 54-year-old man into custody who they identified as the shooter.

Officers also found Ivan Lee Shaw, 49, dead, from gunshot wounds.

The investigation revealed an argument broke out between the two men, who are related, and a handgun was pulled and the suspect began shooting.

The 54-year-old male was lodged at the Cass County Jail on Open Murder charges.

The Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department was assisted on scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Edwardsburg Fire Department, Edwardsburg Ambulance, Cass County Prosecutor’s Office and the Western Michigan University Office of Medical Examiner. The case remains under investigation at this time.
