The City of South Bend has completed its on-site energy assessments for fall cohort recipients of its new Energy Assistance and Solar Savings Initiative, to assist local nonprofits, schools, and other community organizations to install solar panels and making energy efficiency upgrades.
The Fall Cohort includes the following organizations:
AIDS Ministries/AIDS Assist
Boys and Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County
Indiana University South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center
Life Treatment Centers
St. Joseph County Library
St. Joseph County 4H Fair
St. Margaret’s House
The Clubhouse of St Joseph County
Transformation Ministries
The Nexus Center
Unity Gardens
The program, a partnership between the City of South Bend, IFF, and CDFI Friendly South Bend, will allow local nonprofits, schools, public libraries, medical facilities, grocery stores, and places of worship to apply for a free energy assessment, grant funding for improvements, and optional low-interest lending through IFF. Organizations will soon receive an assessment report that will help prioritize projects for energy savings. The City is currently budgeting for next year and hopes to continue the program.
