Body found in Lake Michigan off the Berrien Co. coast

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a body found in Lake Michigan on Sunday. The Coast Guard was contacted around 11:30 a.m. about a body that had been spotted by a sailboat captain about 12 miles offshore.

The body was recovered and turned over to the Sheriff’s office, which in turn will transfer the body to Western Michigan University for identification and an autopsy. The body was found off the coast of the Village of Shoreham, just south of St. Joseph.

No other information has been released.
