South Bend man arrested, charged with domestic assault, strangulation, intimidation

St. Joseph County Jail

A man in South Bend has been charged with multiple counts of domestic assault, strangulation and intimidation after police say he choked a woman and punched her numerous times.

South Bend Police officers were called to the home where it was happening, last Thursday.

On arrival, they found a woman and four children fleeing.

The woman’s face was swollen, bleeding, and had numerous cuts on it.

She told officers she and her husband, 31-year-old Arthur Von Witt Jr., were going through a divorce and threatened to kill her.

She said Witt punched her in the face repeatedly before putting his hands and arms around her neck and choking her until she passed out, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Police confronted Witt in the home and he told them he was “ready to go to jail.”

He’s being held on a $10,000 cash bond and is due in court on November 9th.

He’ll be out in less than 2 weeks, and it’s not the last time his name will be in the news.
