Potawatomi Zoo announces death of howler monkey Eva

Retrieved from Potawatomi Zoo

Some sad news, this week, from the Potawatomi Zoo.

Zoo leaders shared, on Facebook, the death of their beautiful and beloved female black and gold howler monkey, Eva, who passed away last week. She was 16 years old, longer than the typical life span.

They say Eva never fully recovered after having a miscarriage nearly two weeks ago, despite everything the zoo’s caretakess did for her, including administering antibiotics, medication, IV fluids and other care.

The zoo is working with the Howler Monkey Species Survival Plan to bring in a new companion for Eva’s mate, Carlito, and, in the meantime, are giving him extra care and attention.
