Icy roads factored into a serious injury crash in Elkhart County.

The collision happened around 9 p.m. in the 25000 block of County Road 18.

Sheriff’s deputies say a 20-year-old Elkhart man was traveling westbound, then lost control on the ice and slid into the oncoming lane of traffic.

His vehicle was hit by a semi driven by a 62-year-old Elkhart man. The driver of the car suffered head and chest injuries.

His passenger, 17 year-old Breannia Papet of Elkhart, suffered head and pelvic injuries. Both were taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where Papet later died of her injuries.

The semi driver was not hurt.
