Former Notre Dame Professor honored in Britain

A former Notre Dame professor has been given an honor in the United Kingdom.

Professor Emeritus John Finnis has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. His was among the names listed for the honors for 2023 issued by King Charles III.

Finnis taught and researched at Notre Dame from 1995 to 2020 in the Law School, and also taught at the University of Oxford, where he has retired.

His published works include Natural Law & Natural Rights, which was published by the Oxford University Press in 1980. Among his other honors are being elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1989, and being named a Companion of the Order of Australia, that country’s highest honor, in 2019.
