Male, 19, recovering after shooting on Garfield Avenue in South Bend

The Elkhart Police Department is investigating a shooting with injuries that occurred along  Garfield Avenue in Elkhart.

It was around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when Elkhart Police were called to the area of 8th Street and Indiana Avenue in reference to the sounds of gunfire.

While officers were searching the area, Elkhart General Hospital received a walk-in gunshot wound patient. A 19-year-old male victim reported that he was struck while inside a home in the 700 block of W. Garfield Avenue by gunfire originating from outside the home.

Officers observed bullet hole damage to the residence, as well as damage to a Chevrolet Equinox.

The victim was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Officers collected evidence in the area, and continue to actively investigate.
