South Bend man one of two people arrested after traffic stop on U.S. 31

A traffic stop on U.S. 31 led to the arrest of a Fort Wayne woman and South Bend man for drug charges.

It happened around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 when an Indiana State Trooper stopped a black Pontiac for a traffic violation as the Pontiac traveled northbound on US 31 near Kern Road.  While the Trooper spoke to the driver, 21-year-old Alaysha Rau of Fort  Wayne and passenger, 22-year-old Deyquawn Fitch of South Bend, he says he smelled marijuana.

A search of the Pontiac resulted in the discovery of almost 30 grams of suspected marijuana and pills identified as Oxycodone. A loaded Sig Sauer handgun was in the front of Rau’s pants.

Rau was arrested for Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Dealing a Narcotic Drug, Possession of Marijuana, Dealing Marijuana, and Driving While Suspended-Prior.

Fitch was arrested for Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Dealing a Narcotic Drug, Possession of Marijuana, Dealing Marijuana, and Resisting Law Enforcement.

Rau and Fitch were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

I hope the nice Sig Sauer and tall magazine find a new home to a law abiding citizen. That would be a shame if it’s dismantled and sold for scrap.
