Man arrested after threatening woman, preventing her from leaving home

St. Joseph County Jail

A man was arrested on a number of charges after allegedly threatening a woman and preventing her from leaving a home for at least three hours on Friday.

St. Joseph County Police officers were called to a South Bend home on a report of an armed domestic dispute, where a victim told police she tried to leave the residence for three hours.

According to the victim, Adam Kuspa Sr. sprayed pepper spray toward her and pointed a knife at her, as well as punctured a tire on the victim’s vehicle before leaving the scene. Officers found red marks on the victim’s neck and bruising on her arm.

ABC 57 News says police located Kuspa on Terrace Lane, where he said he was visiting friends. However, reports say the homeowner on Terrace Lane said she did not know Kuspa and that nobody was visiting her.

According to reports, a witness to the incident said the victim did try to leave, but that Kuspa did have pepper spray and a knife, though he did not use it on anyone.

He was arrested on the following charges:

One count of confinement
Two counts of criminal confinement
Two counts of intimidation
Two counts of domestic battery
One count of criminal mischief

Kuspa does have a prior domestic battery conviction. He’s being held on a $2,500 cash bond and will have his initial hearing on March 7.
