Motorcyclist killed after crash w/SUV on Nappanee Street identified

UPDATE: The motorcyclist who died after colliding with an S-U-V on Nappanee Street in Elkhart has been identified. Timothy Allen Dorrier, Jr., 41, of Elkhart, died shortly after he was rushed to the hospital. The crash happened, Wednesday afternoon, at the intersection of Nappanee Street and California Road. The 28-year-old woman behind the wheel of the S-U-V was hospitalized, as well, and remains in critical condition. The initial investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Nappanee Street when it struck the S-U-V which was traveling eastbound from California Road.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Elkhart Police Department is currently investigating a deadly motorcycle vs. vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Mishawaka Street/California Road and Nappanee St. in Elkhart.

The collision happened around 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, a motorcycle struck an SUV at the intersection.

The initial investigation indicates that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on N. Nappanee St (State Road 19) when it struck a Toyota Sequoia traveling eastbound on California Rd/Mishawaka St.

The female driver and sole occupant of the Sequoia and the male driver of the motorcycle were both transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The male driver of the motorcycle was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Elkhart Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team was activated, per protocol, and is currently investigating.
