This week is recognized as Emergency Management Agency Appreciation Week.
Those agencies often work behind the scenes without gaining attention until events like snowy weather, floods, tornadoes, wildfires and other natural and man-made disasters take place.
County emergency managers help draft disaster response plans, organize trainings that include first responders and community partners, work with state and federal agencies to find the most recovery methods and offer knowledge and expertise to local community leaders.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is celebrating Emergency Management Agencies on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram throughout the week.
