Elkhart High School Boys Basketball Head Coach Kyle Sears has resigned from his position as the varsity head coach.

Below is a statement released by Elkhart High School regarding Sears departure:

March 3, 2023 – Elkhart, IN – Effective immediately, Elkhart High School Boys Basketball Head Coach Kyle Sears has resigned from his position as the varsity head coach. This follows a 15 year long career within Elkhart High School athletics, which included 9 years as head coach at both Elkhart High School and the former Elkhart Memorial High School, as well as 6 years as an assistant coach.

During his tenure as head coach, Sears led the Boys Basketball team to a 26-45 record in 3 seasons at Elkhart High School, with a 99-115 record overall when factoring in his time at the former Elkhart Memorial High School. This includes 2 Sectional Championships wins: one with the Elkhart Lions in 2021, and one with the Elkhart Memorial Crimson Chargers in 2018. In his resignation statement, Sears says that it has been a pleasure to watch former players grow into the adults they are today, and that he views helping athletes strengthen their character and learn important life lessons as some of the most important functions of high school athletics.

“I am grateful for the time that I’ve had as an Elkhart basketball coach, both as an assistant and head coach, and I wish Elkhart basketball nothing but success in the future! I thank the coaches, families, and the many student-athletes that I’ve had the privilege of coaching over the last 15 years. And most of all, I thank my family for all their constant support,” says Sears.

Elkhart High School Principal Cary Anderson says that he is thankful for Sears’s commitment to the team during his tenure, adding “Kyle is a man of high character, who has always represented Elkhart Athletics in the highest degree of class and dignity.”

Elkhart Athletics will post and accept applications for the Elkhart High School Boys Basketball Head Coach through the Elkhart Community Schools Human Resources Department.
