Beacon Health System has released information about an investigation on an employee found inappropriately accessing patient records.
A release was posted on the Beacon Health website, saying it became aware of the issue in January.
An investigation was put together to find out the full nature of the problem as well as to assess the volume of records that could have been involved.
An individual employed by Beacon has been accessing records that did not pertain to their job duties.
According to the South Bend Tribune, the individual was employed from November of 2018 through February of this year.
A review of potentially accessed records allowed Beacon to notify proper individuals.
While there is no indication of identity theft or fraud, Beacon wanted to alert patients about the incident so they could take necessary steps to protect their information if they desired.
