Power line legislation could impact utility rates

Your power bill could be impacted by this bill if it becomes law.

The bill would allow utility companies to bid on transmission line project through their territory rather than allowing all utilities in on the projects.

Transmission lines are the larger power lines you see that carry power over long distances.

The bill narrowly passed by state lawmakers would invite more competition among utilities like there is with smaller distribution lines — which they say will lower power bills.

Opponents say the opposite will happen.
