Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is opposing a proposed amendment to Title IX that would give transgender students the ability to play school sports.
The U.S. Department of Education’s recommended amendment would make banning transgender students from participating in school athletics because of their gender identity a violation of Title IX.
Holcomb joined 24 governors from various states when he came out against the proposed change.
If the amendment is approved, the federal guidance would likely override state laws like the one in Indiana that bans transgender girls from girls sports.
