County leaders pass tax abatement for proposed GM battery plant in New Carlisle

Passing in the fast lane, on Tuesday, May 23, was a 10-year tax abatement and development agreement with General Motors for a proposed electric vehicle battery plant in New Carlisle.

The final tally came from the Saint Joseph County Council with a unanimous vote in favor of the deal.

County leaders say the deal, which they also approved last year when G.M. partnered with Ultium Cells, is even more financially strong, with their new partner, Samsung.

G.M. is expected to announce whether they’ll being their battery plant to New Carlisle, or elsewhere, by the end of June.
