Commissioners vote to grant tax incentives for proposed GM battery plant in New Carlisle

St. Joseph County Commissioners voted on Tuesday, May 30, to grant tax incentives for the $3.5 billion electric vehicle battery plant proposed for New Carlisle.

The move follows the County Council’s vote, in favor, last week, thereby approving a 10-year tax abatement and development agreement with General Motors.

Once operational, the plant is expected to create approximately 1600 jobs. General Motors is currently evaluating the Indiana Enterprise Center near State Road 2, as a potential location.

Their decision whether to move to New Carlisle is expected before the end of June.
