Elkhart Police arrest man linked to bank fraud attempt

elkhartpolice.org
After weeks of investigation, the Elkhart Police have arrested a man linked to a bank fraud attempt.
In May, the police department had sought the public’s assistance in identifying three individuals involved in the case.
Following this request, a man and a woman voluntarily came forward and cooperated with the assigned detective, ultimately leading to the arrest of a fourth person.
The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Randy Friend from Goshen, was taken into custody and transported to the Elkhart County Jail for his involvement in the fraud attempt, which took place on May 1.
According to authorities, Friend had attempted to withdraw money from a Teachers Credit Union using an ID card that did not belong to him. However, he was arrested by police shortly after leaving the bank.
During the traffic stop, Friend initially provided the officer with a false name. During the investigation, it was revealed that Friend had allegedly obtained a loan and purchased the Jeep he was driving using someone else’s identity.
Officials also discovered that Friend had an existing warrant issued in Goshen.
Friend now faces charges of Identity Deception and Attempted Theft.
