The Indianapolis City-County Council will begin its consideration of a proposal to change Marion County’s gun laws.
Mayor Joe Hogsett is calling on city-county councilors to raise the legal age to buy a firearm to 21, ban semi-automatic rifles such as AR-15s, and prohibit permitless carry and concealed carry in the county.
This comes as the city’s homicides by guns are on pace to surpass the number of fatal shootings that happened last year. Proposal 156 will be introduced to the City-County Council tonight where it is expected to be referred to the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee for a public hearing.

If this passes, half the state will never go to Indy again.

The entire concept is broken though. It’s not the law abiding gun owners causing the violence in Indy, but removing them from the equation will certainly increase the violence.

🧐 Like any of these new laws are going to stop criminal activity in the dangerous city of Indianapolis. Liberals don’t understand that you already have laws when criminals commit crimes with firearms.

The mayor and city council should be changing the laws on good parenting skills. Parents, don’t raise your children to be criminals.

If somehow they were to get this Marion County ordinances changed, we law abiding citizens won’t be armed anymore.

So if I have a permit , I would be required to open carry?
It’s a bit confusing.

IF it passes, it will have a very short live legally., AG Rokita will sue the pants of Indy and Mayor Hoggshead. Indiana has preemption which means no one but the state can pass or enforce gun laws.

If they pass it it will show that they have no understanding of the law. No subsection of government in IN can pass a law regarding firearms that is more restrictive than the states law. It will be an illegal law that would be illegal to enforce.
