More than one million people dropped from Medicaid

Medical bill from the hospital, concept of rising medical cost.

More than 1 million people have been dropped from Medicaid in the past few months.

This, after states moved to halt health care coverage after the pandemic.

The majority of those who got dropped did not fill out their paperwork. Eligibility review is required by the federal government.

About 1.5 million people have been removed in more than 24 states who started the process in both April and May.

Florida has dropped the most people from Medicaid. The drop rate has also been high in states including Arkansas, Idaho, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Utah, with around half getting dropped.

More than 93 million people were enrolled in Medicaid as of February. That’s up nearly one-third from the pre-pandemic total at the start of the year in 2020.

That number grew as federal law prohibited states from removing people from Medicaid during the pandemic.

Now eligibility reviews have resumed. States have a a year to complete the process.
