Sheriff’s deputies investigating several crashes in Cass County

Cass County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating several crashes that have occurred in the past couple of days.

A 72-year-old man from Dowagiac is recovering after injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash. The collision happened just before 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, on M-60 near Hoyt Street in Howard Township. The sheriff’s office reports the man lost control of the motorcycle and left the roadway. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for non-life-threatening injuries. Police say he was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Two people were hurt in a head-on crash on M-51 in Cass County. The collision happened just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, near M-152 in Dowagiac. Sheriff’s investigators say a 21-year-old woman from Dowagiac was headed northbound when a 29-year-old Dowagiac man made a left turn onto M-152 and struck the woman’s vehicle head-on. The man was taken to Borgess Lee Hospital for treatment. The woman was cared for at the scene. Factors that led to the crash are still under investigation.

A motorcyclist is recovering after colliding with a deer. The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, on Beeson Street west of Cherry Grove Road in LaGrange Township in Cass County, Michigan. Investigators say a 64-year-old Cassopolis man was traveling East on Beeson Street when he struck the deer and lost control of the motorcycle in the roadway. The man was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non-life-threatening injuries. The man was not wearing a helmet, according to police.
