NHTSA investigating reports of door issues on ’20, ’21 Ford Escapes

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating reports that the doors on some models of Ford Escapes can open while the SUVs are being driven.

The investigation is targeting the 2020 and 2021 model years of Ford Escapes. On Tuesday the agency posted on its website that they are investigating 346,000 Escapes after 118 complaints of spot welds in a door assembly bracket could fail.

Owners who were contacted reported 25 minor injuries. The agency reports that continued use of the vehicles could dislodge the door, which could fail to latch when closed.

Ford says it is working with the NHTSA to support the investigation.
