Chemical spill being cleaned up, ethanol reported to have entered some waterways

(Tommie Lee/95.3 MNC)
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is helping clean up a chemical spill in which ethanol made it into some of the city’s waterways, likely including the Kankakee River.
While it is not clear exactly how much ethanol was released during the spill, current investigations show that residents should not notice major problems.
IDEM spokesman Barry Sneed told the South Bend Tribune, “There is no indication that water intakes or wells have been impacted.”
