Lyme disease is on the decline in Berrien County

Berrien County is seeing a decrease in reported cases of Lyme disease.

This is tick season, and we’re all used to watching for them on ourselves and our animals. But the Berrien County Health Department tells WNDU that despite favorable conditions, there has been a downtick in Lyme disease cases in the past few years. There were 60 cases reported in 2020, for example, and only 35 cases reported so far this year.

It’s still important to keep yourself safe outdoors this season by using bug spray, avoiding tick-infested areas like grassy and brushy areas, and performing daily tick checks after you’ve been outdoors.
