You could still be stopped at railroad crossings in the coming weeks

If you’ve been stopped at railroad crossings in Elkhart and South Bend, that could continue for the next two weeks.

Roads are still closed at railroad crossing along the Norfolk Southern Line because of a maintenance project.

This includes updating rails and crossings as well as replacing almost everything, except for wooden planks on the tracks.

The projects started last week in Elkhart and will continue into Osceola, Mishawaka, and finally, South Bend.

WSBT reports that it should only be about two weeks before the rest of the project is completed.
