Cooling centers open in South Bend for people who need relief from heat

The City of South Bend has a number of community centers open as cooling stations, due to the excessive heat.

Charles Black Community Center
Monday – Thursday: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Closed Saturday and Sunday

Howard Park Event Center
Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sunday: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

O’Brien Fitness Center
Monday – Friday: 5 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday: 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Pinhook Community Center
Times vary, by appointment

I would recommend cold showers and staying home instead of going to cooling centers. It’s funny how the American public survived in Word War two without air conditioned homes, work places, and vehicles.

America today is too pampered and spoiled. If the power grids ever go down for any length of time, that’s going to be really hard for many.
