Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Representative Frank Mrvan met with United Steelworkers in Gary this week.

They, along with INDOT Commissioner Michael Smith and Gary Mayor Jerome Prince met with them at the Gary-Chicago International Airport.

Northwest Indiana Business reports that they were celebrating federal infrastructure funding that was approved for projects at the airport.

Buttigieg also went to Elkhart to meet with Mayor Rod Roberson about a $2.6 million USDOT grant that will be used to improve a railroad crossing that is often plagued with traffic delays.

The entire Federal grant system needs to be scrapped. Elkhart could have paid for their own railroad crossing years ago if they kept more of their tax money local.

The Federal grant program is just taking taxes out of local communities and then handing it back with strings attached. It is past time to end the charade.
