There has been a recent increase in reported scams across LaPorte County.  The elderly population is being targeted and preyed upon by con artists.
A few of the scams are those that involve prepaid gift cards, an alleged incarcerated family member, overdue tax bills or a criminal arrest warrant.
The sheriff’s office encourages citizens to speak with their elderly family members and friends to make them aware of these scams.
They advise anybody who gets a scam call to hang up and never reveal personal information.
Also, report all frauds, scams, and bad business practices to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/
