Two people have been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation surrounding illegal drug activity.

It was around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 27, when officers with the South Bend Police Department’s Strategic Focus Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle on the northeast side of South Bend when the vehicle sped off, leading officers on a pursuit.

During the chase, officers observed suspected drugs and U.S. currency being tossed out of the suspect’s vehicle.

Assisting officers deployed stop sticks, which helped disable the suspect’s vehicle, bringing the pursuit to an end near Lincoln Way West and Blaine Avenue. Two men inside the vehicle were detained.

Officers recovered approximately six pounds of suspected methamphetamine and approximately $8,000 that were discarded during the pursuit.

No one was injured.

Keith Spann, Jr. and Diquan Crockett, both 29, were arrested on several preliminary charges, including dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting law enforcement.

Spann and Crockett are being held at the St. Joseph County Jail, where they await formal charging decisions from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
