Just weeks until the November election, a South Bend Council member says she’s concerned about low voter turnout.
Councilor At-Large Karen White says the lack of participation has a profound impact on the representation and diversity of the community’s voices.
She plans to conduct an assessment to evaluate quality-of-life issues affecting potential voters and address the recent low voter turnout.
Her goal is to identify specific obstacles and figure out what can help can increase engagement.
White is also asking churches to encourage their members who have not voted to vote on Sunday, Nov. 5. She’s also asking churches to provide transportation.

The people who really turn out to vote are in the presidential elections, and midterm elections years. For the handful people who still vote in the city limits elections, they get what they voted for.

Traditional Democrats aren’t happy with the modern Democrat party, centrists are moving away from Democrats (and away from South Bend along with the conservatives), and the stalwarts of the Democrats feel they already have it locked up so why bother?

The only people interested in voting in those races are the activists, a VERY small percentage of the population. Maybe if Karen wanted more turnout she should worry about policies that are popular with more than just the leftmost extremist fringe of the party? Just a thought.

When things are going bad Democrats won’t vote for a Republican, even if they are a better choice. They protest by not voting at all. The more upset they are with their Democrats the lower the turn out.

If voting made any difference, then they wouldn’t let you do it.
