Goshen College hosts mayor candidate forum

Thursday evening, Goshen College hosted a forum with the two people hoping to become mayor of The Maple City.

Republican challenger Ben Rogers faced off with Democrat incumbent Gina Leichty, who was selected to assume the role after Mayor Jeremy Stutsman stepped down this year.

Both are Goshen natives who say they are ready to serve the community. Rogers was selected to be the Republican nominee when the elected nominee dropped out.

Both candidates agreed that the number one issue facing Goshen is its lack of affordable housing, with higher prices pushing people out of the city, and a need for a few thousand more homes in the city to help it grow.

The Democrat idea of creating “affordable housing” involves subsidies and rent controls that end up making it more expensive.

If you want good economic decisions, don’t let economic illiterates run your economy.
