Charges filed in April 2021 South Bend homicide case

Charges have been filed in the South Bend homicide case from April of 2021.

South Bend Police officers responded to a residence on a report of a “ShotSpotter” activation.

They reportedly found a man with apparent gunshot wounds inside the residence, as well as a woman, Olivia Carrillo, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead after the scene after attempts to resuscitate the woman.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has now filed formal charges against Dashawn Powell, Jr. for murder, robbery, and aiding, inducing or causing a murder.
