The Michigan House has passed a climate change reform package.
The sweeping reforms are mandating clean energy by 2040 in the state. Bridge Michigan reports that the centerpiece of the legislation is a requirement for utilities to get 100% of their energy from state-approved clean sources by 2040.
Some of the legislation would also shift permitting control of large wind and solar arrays from local governments, to the state.
Earlier versions of the package were already approved by the state senate, which will now revisit several of the bills before they head to Governor Whitmer for her signature.
