South Bend schools to add weapons detectors for additional safety

10 new Open Gate weapon detectors will be placed in South Bend schools by the end of the school year.

The South Bend Community School Corporation is taking steps to ensure student safety after recent activity of weapons being brought onto school grounds in the state.

Students, faculty and staff will have to pass through weapons detectors which have the ability to detect vapes and weapons such as knives, guns and bombs.

ABC 57 News says the $189,000 investment is part of the corporation’s larger plan to ensure all students safety.
