Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend is speaking out about the updated non-discrimination policy at St. Mary’s College to consider admission for students who identify as women.

In a post on Facebook, Bishop Rhoades takes exception to the updated policy — saying the college has departed from fundamental Catholic teaching on the nature of woman and has compromised its identity as a Catholic woman’s college.”

He says it’s disappointing that he was not included or consulted on the matter. He says that the desire of Saint Mary’s College to show hospitality to people who identify as transgender is not the problem.

He says the problem is a Catholic woman’s college embracing a definition of a woman that is not Catholic.
