Former Concord High School teacher accused of sex-related crimes sentenced to community corrections

The former Concord High School teacher who pleaded guilty to over a dozen sex-related crimes against children has been sentenced to community corrections.
Andrew Cowells was sentenced on Monday, Nov. 27, after pleading guilty. He was placed on leave in 2021 following allegations of inappropriate comments and behavior which, according to court documents, included ordering a student to “grind” him, and watching a student in the bathroom.
Under the terms of the deal, some charges were dismissed.
In all, he was sentenced to 15 years, but 6 of the years are suspended and will be served on probation. He must also complete sex offender treatment, register as a sex offender and get mental health treatment.
