Elkhart man arrested after driving over three times legal limit with child in car

An Elkhart man with a child in his car was found to be driving with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Police were called to the Lassus Handy Dandy convenience store just after 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, on the report of a car crash.
During the course of the investigation, Jorge Aguilar Vargas, 23, was found to have operated a vehicle while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.
Aguilar failed standardized field sobriety tests and submitted to a certified chemical test, with a result of 0.279 BrAC.
Aguilar was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
