Governor Eric Holcomb has announced David Francisco has been appointed to the St. Joseph County Superior Court. Francisco will succeed Judge John Marnocha who is set to retire on Jan. 31, 2024.
Francisco is a self-employed attorney focusing on criminal defense cases in St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties. He also serves as a part-time public defender in St. Joseph County. Prior to those roles, he was a deputy prosecuting attorney in Elkhart Court.
He volunteers as instructor for the Notre Dame Law School Intense Trial Advocacy Course and coach for the John Adams High School Mock Trail Team. Previously, he volunteered as an assistant coach for the Notre Dame Law School Mock Trial Team.
Francisco received an undergraduate degree from University of California, Los Angeles and a law degree from Indiana University, Maurer School of Law.
He’ll sworn in as Judge on a date to be determined.

Does anyone besides me think a guy who spent his career defending criminals is the best person to be the judge in criminal cases?

Your duty Judge, is to obey your oath to obey the Constitution and the laws of the state and nation. It is not your duty to write new laws or try to re-write the constitution of the state or nation.
